Title: Jehu Destroys Ahab’s House

Last Sunday’s session was rather a dynamic study time where we learned from characters involved in the bible passages. Right from the beginning, Dr. d’Almeida highlighted that just as Jehu was anointed to destroy Ahab’s house including Jezabel, God always anoints and equips people He sends to accomplish a given mission. Based on that he prayed that each one of us will receive the anointing we need to do what God has called us for.

As we moved into the scriptures, the preacher invited us to observe the sovereignty of God and the faithfulness of Jehu as he entered the mission God had anointed him for. Dr. d’Almeida’s teaching was based on three main scriptures: 1 Kings 21: 21-29, where God declared the destruction of Ahab’s house; 2 King 9: 7- 37, where Jehu was anointed and had started his work and 2 Kings 10: 1- 26 , where Jehu accomplished his mission just as God had instructed him.  As we were going back and forth through the scriptures, Dr. d’Almeida remarked that the various people in Ahab’s house whom Jehu destroyed could have escaped the judgment of God by forsaking their sins and turning back to God. One thing he really urged us to ask ourselves, is the Legacy we are leaving for our children. Here, we see how Ahab’s wickedness had brought destruction upon his entire house. While in the meantime, Jehu had received blessings for his seed according to 2 King 10: 30 which says The Lord said to Jehu, “Because you have done well in accomplishing what is right in my eyes and have done to the house of Ahab all I had in mind to do, your descendants will sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” It is important to mention here that Dr. d’Almeida had used each of the characters’ behaviors to educate us about how we should not fight God but fully obey Him whenever His message come to us.

My dear brothers and sisters, let’s all apply Dr. d’Almeida’s teaching to our daily life. Are we going to live like Ahab who left curse for his household or like Jehu who left blessings for his generation? Let us not forget the last verse we all repeated multiple times: “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:31.
